For some students, it’s just their thing, others would rather do without: giving a presentation in front of the whole class. For many years, the importance of presentation skills in the curricula of the federal states has been growing. However, there is a lack of practical help to put this development into practice. This is where the extracurricular project Jugend präsentiert (Youth presents) comes in: it strengthens the presentation skills of pupils in science and mathematics lessons. This helps them not only at school, but also beyond, to communicate scientific topics in an understandable and clear way.
The annual nationwide competition motivates pupils from the 7th grade to graduation to present the knowledge they have learned. Younger pupils from the 3rd to 4th grade are invited to take part in the Jugend präsentiert Kids (Youth presents Kids) competition. In addition, trainings for teachers are offered in order to establish the topic of presentation in the curriculum in the long term. Teachers who take part in the trainings become multipliers. In modules that build on each other, they receive valuable support ranging from teaching materials with ready-to-use exercises to assessment criteria on how they can promote presentation skills in everyday school life.
Jugend präsentiert was launched in 2011 by the Klaus Tschira Foundation and spun off as an independent organization in November 2024. There is close cooperation with the University of Tübingen, where the training and teaching materials are developed at the Seminar for General Rhetoric. Here, the latest scientific findings are translated into practical handouts and the programme offered by Jugend präsentiert is continuously evaluated. The office of the Jugend präsentiert gGmbH is managing the project operationally.
