Great ideas rarely come about in isolation. Through its Sandpit workshops, the Klaus Tschira Foundation creates a space for researchers and stakeholders from the fields of education and science communication.

“Komm MINT aufs Land” – Museum partnerships

Durch die Förderung von Museumspartnerschaften möchten wir dazu beitragen, mehr MINT-Themen aufs Land zu bringen und bestehende sowie neue Zielgruppen in einem lokalen und mitunter ungewöhnlichen Kontext zu erreichen.

search Partnerships between large and small institutions bring STEM topics to rural areas in a new context to a local target group and promote the professionalization and networking of exhibition creators.
groups Larger STEM museums/science centers and STEM exhibition venues located in metropolitan areas or cities with a high degree of professionalism that are entering into partnerships for the first time with significantly smaller rural institutions such as museums, associations, and cultural institutions based in the same or neighboring states. The small partner institutions do not need to have a STEM connection, but should be very open to STEM topics and their presentation in their own context/institution.

Innovative Education

We support innovative projects and research projects in the STEM education sector that make a long-term and sustainable contribution to improving educational opportunities and quality, promoting digital skills, strengthening social integration, and considering individual learning needs.

warning For projects with a funding volume of €50,000–€400,000: Applications must be submitted by September 19, 2025. The review process, including an online pitch if required, starts after the deadline (September 19, 2025) and will take up to six months.
warning Within the scope of this funding line, we do not support educational projects that primarily pursue technological or engineering developments. However, such approaches may be included as partial aspects within a broader educational concept, as long as they do not constitute the main focus of the project. We only fund travel expenses as part of the submitted project proposal.

Innovative Science Communication

The Innovative Science Communication funding line supports interdisciplinary projects that further develop science communication in the STEM field in Germany and break new ground in the process.

warning For projects with a funding volume of max. €50,000: Applications must be submitted by April 10, 2025. The review process starts after the deadline (April 10, 2025) and will take up to three months.
